What is it about?

A science fiction future where earth is at war with aliens who are bleeding the planet dry. After the big fight has ended two humans,Jack ( Tom Cruise) and Victoria, (Andrea Riseborough)have a  job is to scan the earth with technology tracking the planets resources and killing those that don’t belong.

Shannon’s Thoughts:

I was interested in this one more than the other sci-fi movie that came out the same time, which was After Earth.  My husband and I guessed the twist ending. Not quite guessing everything that happens but enough of the story.  I was just hoping it wasn’t a twist I had seen before such as Matrix and I got what I hoped but, there was some elements of the Matrix and 2001:Space Odyssey.

It was okay.  The ships, motorcycles and other tech was cool.  There were some big explosions, some over the top. I was very reminded of Tom Cruise’s Top Gun character with all the flying was done in Oblivion.  If I am being honest I would have to say I am glad that I did not pay $10 for a movie ticket.  I wasn’t really surprised by anything that happened but did enjoy the characters.

Anime Review - Ranma 1/2

What is it about?

A young teenage boy falls in a spring that curses him to change into a girl when wet.

My Thoughts:

This was the first anime I ever watched.  I thought it was weird at first and then the more I watched the more I was hooked into the characters and the story.  It is so funny.  It still my favorite to watch.

This first episode can be strange even for those that have seen other animes.  The boy switching into a girl but still really a boy.  The girl , Akana, that has a attraction to boy and girl Ranma.  The fathers who seem more like little boys including Ranma’s father who is cursed to change into a giant panda bear.

I believe this anime to be the one that influenced the ones made after like Princess TuTu.

It has a lot of sexuality and sometimes nakedness so that is probably why they have not featured it on the any network.  I would like to see it on adult swim.   One can hope.

TV Review : Star Trek Episode 1 Season 1

What is it about?

Captain Christopher Pike and his crew on the Starship Enterprise encounter a telepathic race that can create a world into any they desire or make life a living hell.

My Thoughts:

I did not think I would enjoy this as much as I did.  For some reason I remember the original series growing up was less interesting to me.   As I watch it now I see that the acting is good (not as good as the second epsiode), and the story was interesting.

I had no idea that Captain Kirk was not on this first episode. It seems that Spock was the only one in all of the Star Trek episodes.   Although because from episode 1 and 2 Leonard Nimoy looked so different my husband and I argued whether it was him or not.  He thought it was not him.

I am definitely enjoying the series more then I thought I would.  I still think Star Trek: The Next Generation is the better of the series but that is besides the point.

Anime Review - This Ugly Yet Beautiful World Epsiode 1

What is it about?
A lazy high school student and his friend come across a strange light in the sky that turns out to be a beautiful girl.

My Thoughts:

The cover for this attracted me on Netflix but it ended up being an Anime I don’t think I would like.  I am more for the cutey animes, like Ranma ½.  This had me a little interested but bored at the same time.  

Yes I understood the title and knew that it might get a little dark but the way it was described just seemed that it would be different.   

Maybe it was because I related a little to much to Takeru, the lazy high school student, maybe because part of me was interested in the ending of this episode and at the same time disliked.  Could be that is the point.  Yes there are part that are ugly yet beautiful.  It is just this kind of darkness brings me down sometimes just because of the fact I guess it is true.

I don’t think I will be watching the rest as it just wasn’t for me.  Although my interested is a little curious to know what happens.  Maybe another time I will turn to it.  The nice thing about time sometimes it changes your views on things so this rating may not be permanent.

Had I watched the trailer on YouTube before hand I probably would have not watched it.
